Conservative treatment including weight loss, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and biologic treatment is usually effective at treating mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis.
When arthritis is severe and conservative treatment is not providing adequate pain relief it is time to consider knee replacement.
Knee replacement has developed and evolved significantly over the past few years.
It involves removing articular cartilage and a small amount of bone from each surface and replacing it with components made out of hitech metals and plastics.
Advantages of Total Knee Replacement
Advantages of total knee replacement include:
Less pain soon after the procedure. Elimination of pain eventually.
Improved ability to move the knee and walk
Better quality of life in daily activities
My Knee system is individualized for each patient. The patient's knee is imaged and digitized providing information which is used to design patient specific instruments of high quality and accuracy.
This resulted in an operation is both highly accurate and more rapid as all measurements and calculations are performed on the computer before the surgical procedure.
The patient's own bones are in then recreated using 3-D printers and the instruments can then be tested prior to the surgery.
